PM receives European Parliament delegation

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Welcoming the delegation’s visit, the Premier stressed the importance of intensifying and development cooperation with the European Parliament. Nikol Pashinyan briefed the guests on the political processes underway in our country, stressing that one of his government’s priorities is the continued development of democratic institutions. In this context, the Head of Government introduced the reforms and programs aimed at fighting corruption, protecting human rights, dismantling economic monopolies, etc.

The Prime Minister presented his observations in connection with the possibility of holding extraordinary parliamentary elections and amending the Electoral Code, stressing that they are supposed to provide for free, fair and democratic elections. “The goal of our steps is to implement real changes in the country,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

Noting that they had been closely following Armenia’s political developments, the European MPs stressed their importance and welcomed their peaceful and non-violent completion in line with the principles of democracy and the Constitution. They stressed that the European Union is prepared to support the steps taken by the new government toward the furtherance of reforms and the strengthening of democracy in Armenia.

During the meeting, Nikol Pashinyan answered some questions of interest to the European MPs concerning the country’s investment attractiveness, the betterment of the business environment, the separation of business activities from politics, the development of civil society, as well as the Karabakh conflict settlement process and other issues.
