PM commemorates 1988 earthquake victims; attends housewarming ceremony in Lori Marz

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan traveled to Lori Marz on the 31st anniversary of the December 7, 1988 earthquake. The Premier first visited Shirakamut (Nalband) village, the epicenter of the devastating earthquake. Nikol Pashinyan paid tribute to the memory of those innocent victims who died in the earthquake and laid a wreath at the monument-khachkar located near the Shirakamut municipality.

Nikol Pashinyan left Shirakamut for Spitak to attend a requiem service commemorating the innocent victims of the earthquake in Monuments Alley. The Head of Government next attended the inauguration of the bust of Armenian national hero, American-Armenian benefactor Kirk Kirkorian. The bust was donated to Spitak city by RA People’s Artist, sculptor Levon Tokmajyan.

The Prime Minister also laid flowers at the khachkar dedicated to the memory of Japanese earthquake and tsunami victims and at the monument-khachkar dedicated to the memory of April war heroes. Nikol Pashinyan called at the Holy Resurrection Church in Spitak and lit a candle in memory of the innocent victims of the 1988 earthquake. The Premier then visited Lernantsk community to attend the inauguration of a block of flats built for local residents. Within the framework of the Disaster Zone State Housing Program, 8 apartments were built by the Fuller Center for Charitable Non-Governmental Organizations at the expense of government funding.

Nikol Pashinyan congratulated the beneficiaries on housewarming, wished them every success and progress, noting that the government was consistent in resolving the disaster zone housing problem. The Government has launched the construction of 24 new high-rise apartments, 4 of them in Lernantsk.

Prime Minister Pashinyan talked to the residents of Shirakamut, Spitak and Lernantsk communities, learned their concerns and answered their questions. The Prime Minister presented the disaster zone housing programs, highlighting the ongoing government-community-regional administration cooperation in the context of community development and subsidy programs.
