RA Prime Minister, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State discuss bilateral cooperation agenda

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by George Kent, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the European and Eurasian Bureau at the U.S. Department of State.

The Prime Minister noted that the furtherance of friendly relations and constructive partnership with the United States is of great importance to Armenia, which is undergoing fundamental reforms on its way to institutional, economic and democratic strengthening.

The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State said he was glad to visit Armenia again following the parliamentary elections and discuss a cooperation agenda with the Armenian side. According to George Kent, the United States is interested in developing relations and partnership with Armenia in the areas of top priority for our country.

The parties discussed ways of deepening the ongoing mutually beneficial cooperation. Among his government’s institutional reforms, Nikol Pashinyan highlighted the judiciary reform, the fight against corruption, as well as the cooperation in electoral and police-related matters. The Premier pointed out that free and democratic elections have been held in Armenia, which need to be supported by institutional guarantees, and the implementation of successful reforms in these areas is of great importance.

Coming to the development of economic ties, the head of the Armenian government dwelt on the prospects for cooperation in the fields of reservoir construction, infrastructures, high technologies and environmental protection.

George Kent noted that supportive of Armenia’s commitment to democracy and the steps aimed at ensuring economic progress, the United States is prepared to assist the Government of Armenia with the ongoing reforms.

The Prime Minister and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State took the opportunity to exchange views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process, regional challenges and developments.

Prime Minister Pashinyan wished every success to the meeting of the intergovernmental commission on Armenian-American strategic dialogue, due to be held tomorrow.
