Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hosted His Majesty King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, who has arrived in Armenia on official visit.

Welcoming the King of Jordan, the Prime Minister said: “Excellency, I am honored to see you in our country. This is a historic visit; this is your first ever visit to Armenia, and as we agreed, not the last one. We hope to see you in our country many times ahead.

We highly value the relations with Jordan because we see the Middle East, in general, and your country, in particular, as a direction of strategic partnership. I am very happy that our bilateral relations are on the rise. We already have concrete results and specific directions of mutual interest. I am also glad that you are accompanied by business people, and we can sign a relevant document to make our relations even better and much more effective.

I am pleased for this opportunity to meet you again. I would like to stress that the Armenians have kept very positive historical recollections of Jordan because your people supported the survivors of the Armenian Genocide that adds warmth to our attitude for Jordan and the Jordanian people, which is a very strong ground for developing bilateral relations, and I hope that we will be able to build stronger bonds on that ground. Thank you very much.”

In turn, King Abdullah II said: “Excellency, thank you very much. As you noticed, we are very proud of the common history that our peoples share. I was given a very warm welcome on my arrival in Armenia yesterday, and as you said, I hope this is just one of my many future visits. We have been bound by special ties of friendship for many years, and I hope it will continue in the same spirit. There is still much to do in the years to come, and I am very optimistic and impressed with your hospitality.”

The parties discussed a number of issues relating to the development of the Armenian-Jordanian economic and humanitarian relations. Prime Minister Pashinyan advised that Armenia’s economy is showing good development trends, promoted by a favorable economic climate formed in the country. He stressed that the Armenian government is eager to see Jordanian businesses and capital involved in our country as there are good prospects for economic cooperation. The Premier added that Armenia can serve as a good platform for Jordanian businesses to enter the EAEU market on preferential terms.

In turn, King Abdullah II said the Government of Jordan, too, is interested in developing trade relations with Armenia and cooperating in tourism, agriculture, IT, etc. Both sides highlighted the need for easing the visa regime between the two countries.

The Armenian Premier and the King of Jordan exchanged views on the latest regional developments. In this context, they touched upon the ongoing negotiations for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and highlighted the importance a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Taking the opportunity, King Abdullah II invited Nikol Pashinyan to pay an official visit to Jordan.
