Chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, a regular meeting was held today in the Office of Government to discuss a package of measures aimed at countering the adverse impact the coronavirus.

The discussion focused on the scope of beneficiaries and the mechanisms for the provision of social assistance to vulnerable groups and on a number of related issues. In addition to the programs approved at the previous meeting, new measures developed through joint interagency work were proposed to support those who have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Lump-sum assistance will be provided pursuant to the Government’s action plan aimed at providing welfare support and addressing the economic downturn. The meeting discussed the toolkit to be used, including the timing, size of assistance, etc.

Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Government is trying to give a complex solution to medical, social and economic issues, and the lump-sum assistance is supposed to encourage the working man and should be provided as soon as possible. The Premier urged those in charge to work in an emergency mode and submit a finalized package at the next Cabinet meeting.
