Nikol Pashinyan meets with United Motherland party leader Mher Terteryan

08.07.2021

As part his consultations with a number of extra-parliamentary political forces, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today met with United Motherland party leader Mher Terteryan.

Nikol Pashinyan: Mr. Terterian, I am happy to see you. Thank you for accepting my invitation. The United Motherland attended the early parliamentary elections, which were described by international observers as democratic, held in line with the generally accepted standards.

We perceive the current situation as an opportunity to mobilize our public and national potential and address the problems facing the nation. In this context, we appreciate the activities of both parliamentary and extra-parliamentary forces. The purpose of these political discussions and consultations is to hear your opinion, your position on the future development of political life in Armenia. What can we do so that the government and extra-parliamentary forces, in particular, your party, could interact in implementing valuable ideas for the sake of Armenia’s development, since we do not consider that valuable ideas can only be expressed by those forces that got the most votes in the elections? We know that there are sufficiently good ideas, and we are prepared to provide the conditions necessary for their implementation. Therefore, this discussion is very important.

Mher Terteryan: Thank you for the invitation. During the electoral campaign, we set a goal to have an opportunity to present our capabilities and our vision for the future. We consider our task accomplished, as we were able to set forth new theses and directions, emphasizing the importance of army building efforts, and in this context, the development of military industry.

We talked about how we see the future in terms of economic development; we formulated programs aimed at developing agriculture. We paid special attention to the effective work with the Diaspora. I welcome your initiative to consolidate Armenia’s political forces in the wake of the snap elections. This will have a positive effect as the concept of cohesion among our people will be further strengthened. This is a very positive initiative. I agree with you that we must do delicate work for consolidation to take place.

I have personally demonstrated through my work ever since 2017 that regardless of my political views, I want to support the government with my knowledge and experience. I hope that today we will have the opportunity to discuss this separately.
