The implementation of the Food Safety System Development Strategy and the resulting 2023-2028 Action Plan discussed at Government

A consultation was held in the Government, chaired by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during which the implementation of the Food Safety System Development Strategy and the resulting 2023-2028 Action Plan was discussed.

According to Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, the Food Safety System Development Strategy stems from the 2021-2026 Program of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. The work carried out to ensure food safety, a healthy population, market expansion and export growth, productivity increase, investments increase and social stability, and economic growth was reported. In particular, work was carried out to improve legislation, develop scientifically sound policies, introduce quality and safety management systems, strengthen institutional, including laboratory capabilities, and ensure traceability.

Slaughterhouse activities were referred to, and it was noted that various programs for economic entities providing slaughterhouse services were implemented. Information was presented on the results of monitoring carried out by the Food Safety Inspection Body during 2024-2025. Programs for the vaccination of agricultural animals and the control of residual substances in animal products were also implemented. Details were presented on the processes of selling dairy products with separate shelves, state registration of feed additives and maintaining a register.

During the consultation, the mechanisms for detecting and responding to violations in the field of food safety, their effectiveness, legislative amendments related to slaughterhouse activities, as well as the improvement of veterinary services and capacity development were discussed.

Within the framework of the issues discussed, the Prime Minister gave relevant instructions.
