A meeting was held under the Prime Minister's chairmanship, during which the process of reforms in the personal data protection system was discussed.
Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan first presented details on the directions and goals of the Personal Data Protection Agency's activities, touched upon the main problems and challenges in the field of personal data protection. Taking into account the existing problems and the need to implement reforms, a concept for the creation of a new independent authorized body for personal data protection was presented, the basis of which will be the improvement of existing legislation and practice. It was emphasized that the reforms being implemented will also contribute to the implementation of international obligations, including the process of visa liberalization with the EU. Srbuhi Galyan noted that the development of the concept was based on other analyses, as well as the study of the experience of other countries.
The participants of the meeting discussed issues related to the implementation of the concept, including the needs assessment, stakeholder engagement, and development of a legislative package.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of establishing an authorized body for personal data protection in accordance with international standards, with operational and institutional independence. According to the Prime Minister, it should improve the level of ensuring the right to personal data protection, contribute to the development of the capabilities of specialists, and raise the level of public awareness on personal data protection.
