The official opening ceremony of the new building of the Sos Sargsyan Nationwide Theater (Hamazgayin Theatre) took place in Yerevan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, accompanied by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, visited the new building of the theater, toured it, and got acquainted with the created conditions.

The construction of the new theater building, launched in 2019, was carried out with the funds of the state budget and benefactors. More than 275 million drams were allocated from the state budget of the Republic of Armenia for the construction, renovation and replenishment of the new building of the Nationwide Theater, of which 205 million drams were for the acquisition of property and equipment, and 70 million for construction.

The theater has a new stage, modern lighting and sound systems, necessary technical equipment and facilities, dressing rooms and make-up rooms. On the first floor there is a small stage for experimental performances, and on the second floor there is a large hall for more than 230 spectators.

2026 marks the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Sos Sargsyan Nationwide Theater. Until now, the theater did not have a separate building and operated on the territory of the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema.

The opening of the new theater building was marked by the staging of Maurice Maeterlinck’s play “The Miracle of St. Anthony”.
