Today, the regular Cabinet meeting took place, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
The Government approved the Strategic Program for the Development of the Science Sector of the Republic of Armenia for 2026-2030, the schedule of measures for its implementation, and the priority directions for the development of the science and technology sectors in the Republic of Armenia for 2026-2030. The decision is aimed at the formation of an effectively managed and internationally competitive scientific system by 2030, which will operate in line with the requirements of the European Research Area, based on highly qualified scientific personnel, developed and optimal research infrastructures, and international excellence in research.
Nikol Pashinyan noted that in 2021-2026, about 13 billion drams were allocated for 142 scientific devices. Among them is the YSU supercomputer, the acquisition and installation costs of which amounted to 3.7 billion drams. Regarding the latter, the Prime Minister said that initially there were opinions that it would not be used, while today there is a need for a new supercomputer. “When we were discussing it at that time, of course, there was pessimism, spending 10 million dollars on a supercomputer, but, in fact, that deal, that investment by the Government opened the way for further progress. And today, the supercomputer is also an educational tool for YSU and the higher education system in general,” Nikol Pashinyan noted.
The Prime Minister informed that at the moment, 49 scientific devices worth 5.4 billion drams are in the procurement process.
The Government adopted the decision “On Moving the Working Day”. Accordingly, in 2026. the working day of May 4 will be moved to Saturday, April 18. Referring to the decision, the Prime Minister noted that it will first of all provide an opportunity to spare our citizens from additional inconveniences and organize the event at the proper level. “I would like to take this opportunity once again to thank our partners in the European Political Community for the decision to hold the summit in Yerevan. You know that this decision is made by consensus. Of course, this is a very important milestone in terms of the accomplishment of our state and strengthening its international reputation. It is also important that we host the event at the highest organizational level. I am confident that this will be the case,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
Another decision will ensure the procurement of services related to the organization and holding of the 8th Summit of the European Political Community.
