Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited Kond district today, met with residents, got acquainted with the existing problems and proposed solutions.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, and Minister of the Urban Development Committee Yeghiazar Vardanyan.

The Prime Minister toured the district, got acquainted with the conditions, the state of structures of historical and cultural significance, and talked with residents.

The concept for the urban reconstruction of the "Kond" district, which was discussed under the leadership of the Prime Minister on June 26, sets out the starting conditions for the reconstruction of the district, in particular: the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and monuments, improvement of the living conditions of the population, modernization of engineering and transport infrastructure, formation of an economically feasible development model, increasing investment attractiveness, and promotion of tourist activity.

The total area of the “Kond” district is 16.0 ha, of which the area for the project implementation is 10.0 ha. The district contains 4 monuments of republican significance included in the State List and 8 newly discovered monuments, mainly residential houses, which have the status of monuments of local significance. A public-private investor-community cooperation model is proposed for the development of “Kond”. During the development of the concept, international experience was studied, in particular, the example of the historical district of “Plaka” in Athens, which is based on the combination of the preservation of the historical environment, the improvement of pedestrian areas, the promotion of small businesses and the activation of cultural life.

In a conversation with the residents, the Prime Minister presented the details of the concept and informed that it is planned to adopt a law on Kond in order to carry out further work by mutual consent. "We want to help you, that you have lived in such difficult conditions for so many years, so that new perspectives open up for you," the Prime Minister emphasized, adding that the implementation of the project will be possible over time, in stages.

Nikol Pashinyan also visited the area adjacent to the Yerevan Municipality, where the "Vahagn Vishapakagh" monument was recently installed. By government decision, the monument was moved from the intersection of Admiral Isakov Avenue and Sebastia Street.
