Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan got acquainted with the overhaul of the traffic section of the Kievyan Bridge, which was completed two weeks earlier, on August 14, instead of the scheduled August 29.
Those responsible emphasized that the primary goal of all the work carried out is to increase traffic safety and ensure safer and more comfortable conditions for citizens. In particular, deformation seams have been restored, drainage and waterproofing systems have been restored and installed, new, galvanized barriers have been installed, electrical cables from lighting poles have been dismantled and moved to inspection holes under the pavement, the asphalt concrete top layer has been installed, the sidewalks on both sides have been asphalted, and road markings have been carried out.
A special polymer-concrete material was used in the deformation joints, which is being used for the first time in Armenia. It is designed to minimize shocks and vibrations during the passage of vehicles, ensure the safety of the bridge's operation, and make traffic more comfortable. The strengthening and restoration of the damaged sections of the bridge's flying arch and supports, as well as other planned works, will continue until the end of the year without hindering traffic.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of bridge construction and overhaul programs in Armenia and emphasized that the Government plans to build or overhaul about 40 bridges during 2026–2031.
The Kievyan Bridge was last overhauled in July-August 1995 to solve drainage problems. The works were carried out in cooperation with the Yerevan Municipality and the Ministry of Transport and Construction. The overhaul was carried out with a 20-year warranty.
