Today, the regular Cabinet meeting was held, chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
By the decision of the government, 1,255,853.3 thousand drams will be allocated to the regional administrations of the Republic of Armenia in order to fulfill financial obligations to the relevant construction organizations for the implementation of subsidy programs. The decision will allocate money for 9 subsidy programs in 7 communities. “Overall, with this approval, we will have 10.9 billion drams of co-financed subsidy programs in all communities of the republic from the 2026 budget,” noted the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan.
The Prime Minister presented the programs financed by the decision.
The Government decision will ensure the normal course of measures envisaged by a number of programs implemented by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia. Accordingly, it is proposed to implement internal redistributions of 1,174.7 million drams in order to make necessary payments in various sections of the North-South Road Corridor and other projects. Commenting on the decision, Nikol Pashinyan noted: “I am pleased to note that the construction of the Kajaran-Agarak section is progressing at a very good pace. The work on the Kajaran tunnel is also progressing at a good pace, and in the logic of general regional and international developments, the implementation of these projects is very appropriate and very timely.”
The Government adopted a decision that will ensure the implementation of urgent programs that require a priority solution in the regions of Lori, Shirak, Syunik, Vayots Dzor and Tavush. Referring, in particular, to the construction of a playground in the Nerkin Hand settlement of the Kapan community of Syunik region, Nikol Pashinyan considered it very symbolic: “It is very important that the people of Nerkin Hand have asked to build a playground for them. In other words, when we say whether there is peace or not, this is what it is about. This means that the parents of Nerkin Hand are ready to let their children go and play in that playground, they have no concerns, right? It is clear that no demarcation has been made there, it is clear that there are issues. This means that people have also already noted that the general logic and philosophy of resolving these issues has moved to another field. That field is the regulation on the joint activities of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border demarcation commissions, which has been ratified in both Armenia and Azerbaijan, is a document with binding legal force. And this is very symbolic."
Nikol Pashinyan also touched upon the economic activity indicators for July 2026 published by the Statistical Committee: “It should be noted that these indicators are quite good. Before that, by the way, the semi-annual indicator of gross domestic product had already been published. It was noted that in the first half of 2026 we had not an economic activity indicator, but a 6 percent GDP growth. This is an important point in the sense that, having assumed power in 2021, in August, we set ourselves the task of ensuring 7 percent annual economic growth, and undoubtedly and unequivocally we have ensured more than 7 percent, an average of 7.9 percent economic growth. And this is a very important indicator. July's indicators are also quite good, and of course, it should be noted that two sectors are currently playing the role of locomotives: construction and services," the Prime Minister said, adding that construction grew by 26.5 percent in July compared to July of last year, and services by 17 percent.
In order to properly organize the events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia, the Government adopted a decision. On the occasion of the anniversary, a series of events dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia are planned to be held in September. The goal of the events is to properly evaluate and publicize the 35-year path of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, emphasize the importance of the achievements of independent statehood, and present high-value cultural events to the public. In particular, an open-air festive concert will be held in the Republic Square. It will consist of two main parts: a historical-cultural performance and a concert program dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Armenia.
The Government approved the results of the election of the rector of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia. Candidate of Technical Sciences Gor Vardanyan was elected to the position of rector of the university for a term of 5 years.
