Issues related to the organization of the “Tour of Armenia” international professional cycling tournament to be held in Armenia on September 10-13, 2026 were discussed under the leadership of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The meeting was attended by members of the interdepartmental working group established to organize the road cycling race, Italian Ambassador to Armenia Alessandro Ferranti, Director of RCS Consulting Company, which provides consulting services in organizing the cycling race, Napoli Michele, and other concerned officials.
Director of RCS Consulting Company Napoli Michele presented details on the organizational work of the cycling tournament. It was noted that the participation of experienced cyclists from about 20 teams is planned in the multi-day cycling race; each team will consist of 6 members. According to Napoli Michele, the cycling race is planned to be held in Yerevan, and Gegharkunik, Tavush, Lori, and Aragatsotn regions along relevant routes.
It was reported that during this period, a number of meetings were held with the departments in charge regarding the organization of the international cycling race, visits were organized to the relevant regions, routes and other organizational issues were discussed. The work is ongoing.
The meeting discussed issues related to the technical condition of road infrastructure, logistical accessibility, presenting the landscapes of Armenia in the best possible way during the tournament, and other preparatory work. The importance of the tournament in promoting tourism in Armenia, in particular cycling tourism, was emphasized, and the fact that the tournament will be annual was also emphasized.
Summing up the discussions, Nikol Pashinyan noted: “The tournament is already included in the international calendar and has been approved. Of course, at this moment, our international partners already have specific proposals regarding the routes, which will also be subject to technical verification from the point of view of feasibility and necessary adjustments will be made. Our goal is to make the tournament an annual event, and of course, from this perspective as well, it will first be a stimulus for developing cycling in Armenia, because it is widely developing in the world and is receiving a lot of attention, especially now, when environmental issues are receiving special attention, and cycling is one of the ways that can help us, including in terms of overcoming traffic jams."
The Prime Minister thanked those responsible for making this event possible, emphasizing that the further development of this wonderful idea is also depends on the quality of organization and implementation.
The Prime Minister was pleased to note that there is already a decision to hold the European Youth Cycling Championship in Armenia in 2029, which also means that Armenia is entering a period that can play a very important role in terms of the development of cycling, a healthy lifestyle, as well as tourism.
